Engineer Print Success for under $20

My last post was all about us finally owning our 1st house! This means it's time to decorate each room. One of my favorite rooms I am starting with is the Master-bedroom. This is the only room Mr. Wonderful and I do not have to share with the Boy and Girl. I wanted to make it specially tailored for us.

One of our favorite pictures with each other was taken in a photo booth at his brother's wedding. I wanted this picture to be one of the focal points in the room. I had seen on pinterest the amazing Engineering prints for only $4.99 at kinkos. I decided to give it a try!

What I used:
Our favorite Picture
24x36 Engineer Print(of favorite picture)$4.99
24x36 Underlayment Wood from Home Depot $5.00
Hanging hooks and Wire from Home Depot $4.00
Modge Podge (already had it from JoAnns)
Color Pencil
Paint (left over from other projects)
Paint Brushes and Rolling Brush
How I did It:

1. I went to Kinkos with this picture and ordered a 24x36 engineering print.

2. I wanted to add some color because the $4.99 engineer prints only come in black & white.

I chose to color my flower with a red coloring pencil.

3. I went to Home Depot and asked for a 24x36 piece of Underlayment Wood. Engineer prints are super thin so I wanted to place it on top of something sturdy.

4. I painted the wood. I did not want the brown wood color to overtake the picture.

I mixed yellow, white, brown, and black because that's all I had and I did not have enough of one color.

It worked!

5. After I let the paint dry on the wood I got my Mod Podge out. I rolled a single layer on the wood and on back of the print.

6. I placed the engineer print on the wood.

7. I rolled a layer of Modge Podge on top of the print.

I loved the way it turned out. I even love the wrinkle effect it has!
*if you want a no wrinkle look use Adhesive Spray instead of Modge Podge

8. The hanging material that was purchased at Home Depot was placed on the back of the wood.

9. I hung the picture under a decal saying in our Masterbedroom.

10. Mr. Wonderful loved it!

Picture Perfect Plates

I am a little obsessed with pictures! I wanted to hang some of my favorite photos in my kitchen. I did not want framed pictures. A light bulb came on for my desire. I came up with the idea of picture plates! The idea turned into reality last week!

What I used: Modge Podge
Scissors
Paint Brush
4 Glass Plates(from Dollar General)
4 Pictures printed from computer printer & on regular printer paper

1. I cleaned & dried plates
2. I uniformly cut all pictures to fit somewhat in the same area of all the plates
3. I applied 1 layer of Modge Podge on top of each picture(as they lay on plates)
4. I let them sit and dry for a hour.
5. I placed one more single layer of Modge Podge on pictures and again let them dry again for a hour.

I love the end products.

I plan on hanging them on the kitchen wall fairly close to my You Are My Sunshine sign.

I am trying to decide if I should just stick them to the wall or place them in plate hangers!?

I will keep you updated with my Picture Perfect Plates!!!

Party Mode Part II: Birthday Banner

The second thing on my list for the party was a Birthday Banner. I wanted something full of the theme colors and full of my baby girl....

Tutorial:

Supplies:

1 pack of red plates
1 pack of black plates
1 pack of ribbon(this and all the above from the dollar store)
2 sided tape
Scissors
Hole puncher

12 months of pictures printed out in black and white from Costco

1. I hole punched 14 plates twice (on each side )evenly in the middle.

2. I connected each plate individually to another plate with the white ribbon and made a knot.

3. I curled each ribbon with the scissors.

4. I cut all the picture into an oval that would fit perfectly on the plates. I made sure there was picture of the Lil lady with her Daddy...

Her Mommy.....

And her Big Brother

5. I used the 2 sided tape to place the pictures on the plates, somewhat in chronological order.

6. I printed Happy Birthday signs out to place on each sides of the banner.

7. I tested out the finished project

I can't wait to see it with the rest of the decorations in 6 weeks, at my Lil Lady's party! Now onto the next project and I can't wait to share it with you next week!

Party Mode Part I: Homemade Tiered Cupcake Stand

One thing I can say about myself is that I love to plan ahead and love to plan my kids birthday parties!!! In 2 months my Baby Girl will be turning the big 1! I can't believe how time has flown by and I know the next couple of months will too. I wanted to start planning ahead by doing a thing or 2 or 3 each week before the party. My goal is to have all my crafts done the week of the party so that I can just enjoy the big occasion and not be stressed out.

One of the most important things of a 1st birthday is the 1st bite of cake the baby takes. I want to do cupcakes for the party. I realized that I need something to display them on. I got inspired by this blog and made my own Tiered Cupcake Stand!
This is my tutorial for my Homemade Tiered Cupcake Stand:
#1.  I found boxes that would stack proportionally and that will leave space around the edges for the cupcakes.

#2. I wrapped the boxes in coordinating colors for the party.

# 3. I decorated  the boxes with recycled ribbon and black foam paper(from The Dollar Store).

#4. I added a couple props to go along with the 1st Birthday theme...can you guess what the theme of the party will be?

Now just imagine it with cupcakes!!

1st thing down for the party and 7 weeks to go! Come back next week to see the next project I have done for the BIG party!!! If your not a follower, follow me along this party journey!!!

My 2 Lil Pumpkins!

The Story of my 2 Lil Pumpkins

I am totally in Love with pumpkins this Fall! I saw these 2 Lil Pumpkins at Safeway and they reminded me of my real Pumpkins(my kids). One is tall and thin(for a pumpkin) compared to the other, which is short and plump.I ran to Joann fabrics and picked up some supplies(ribbon and decorated paper), printed out a picture of each kid, and found some crazy glue. I did not know exactly how this was going to turn out....

To begin the crazy glue was a big fail so I tried two-sided tape to put my kids names on the 2 Lil  Pumpkins. I also hole-punched their pictures and ran the ribbon through, so that the pictures could hang.

I thought this was cute, but my 2 Lil pumpkins still did not satisfy my eyes.

I took the picture faces off the 2 Lil Pumpkins and decided to try just the names and ribbons.

I placed my 2 Lil pumpkins in the living room with a picture in between them.
Then I placed the picture on the side of my 2 Lil Pumpkins.
I then took the picture away . JJ (the real JJ) was trying to pull the 2 Lil pumpkins down from the entertainment center . I took this as a sign that they did not belong in the living room.
I was still not satisfied with the look and location of my 2 Lil Pumpkins. I changed their ribbon with some recycled ribbon . I also turned the pattern around on JJ's
name, to make it look masculine.
I then took my the 2 Lil pumpkins up stairs.  I placed them on our dresser next to our mini personalized calendar.
Nope, I didn't like that. And then finally my eyes were satisfied. This was the final look and place for my  2 Lil Pumpkins.
